made to measure

I bought myself a made to measure suit. It's all in the deatils: Button holes in the sleeve that work, hand stitched along the lapels...
I am addicted to this new experience. I think there'll be more to come.

a rare find!

I always head to the tie section in Hermès. I love their ties with little tiny cartoons all over the tie. BUT it seems like the house is till in the 80's! All the ties are chunky and fat. The selection of slim ties is small! None of those I lile match the new slim silhouette that has been around for the past 5 years and (I think) is here to stay!
That is until I saw this hanging in the Hermes outlet in the Hong Kong airport. Slim tie, small cartoons of horses with a jockey in an orange top (horses & orange! a nod to Hermès heritage)

THE trench

I bought my most expensive piece of clothing ever! The Burberry Trench - in black.

While I don't think I will ever wear it in Singapore, I figured it will last me many many years when I travel. So that justified the high price I paid. Now, I gotta plan some vacations to cooler places.

Slim fit, from the Black Label offshoot of Burberry, "made for Asians" the sales guy told me. haha.

just so wrong

The thing about wearing labels is that i always wonder why people bother wearing them when it is so blatantly obvious that it is a fake.

it's sunny outside!

See the weather outside the MRT window? It's BRIGHT and sunny! So why is this gentleman wearing a leather jacket with a knitted lining? Beats me.

Nice things that are no longer

Nothing describes the joy when you discover a product that works for you or a nice brand that make nice shoes.

And nothing is more painful when after you have found it, cruely snatched away from you. And it has happened to me with these 3 items.

Number 1 is the Lab Series Clay Mask. It is EXCELLENT! Pores are tightened, skin is radiant and visibly clearer after use. Alas... it's discontinued.

Item 2 is the La Roche-Posay oil control toner - their oil control series works for me and it's at a confortable price point. Now, the toner is discontinued. Sigh...

Item 3 is Hogan shoes. Hogan makes the best casual shoes ever! Their shoes are crafted from the best materials and are so comfortable! The only silver lining is that they only have pulled out of Singapore. I can still fly outside of the country to get my fix.

it's called effort

Wished I could have got a picture of her carrying the bag. But I guess this will have to do. Loved how she matched the heel of her shoes with the colour of her laptop bag. Now, that is called effort!

it's man lace

I think I figured why I am obsessed with perforated apparel and accessories. Coz it is Man Lace!

Rather than wear prints, I think proferations are the perfect way to jazz up anything!

But I think I'll draw the line when proferations show the nipples.

new shoes

It's the GSS and I hadn't bought anything nice for a long time. So I went down to Orchard with the objective getting me something. That's when I came back with these:

Double stitching.

Love how the stitching ends midway of the shoe. So this shoe is made from one large piece of leather and a smaller price. Not an easy feat!

It's actually a brown shoe. But under the yellow lighting of my room, it appears black.

This set me back quite a tidy sum. But I figured, with proper care, this can last me a lifetime and I guess it's a small price to pay for something that is will last me a long time!

Little Thad is now walking around with his new pink & purple Hello Kitty shoes.

I don't think I can ever pull it off - the shoes and the head titled to the side pose for the camera.

at a fraction of the price

A few months ago, I was longing for the Prada perforated knits. Then while surfing ASOS.com the other day, I saw something similar from Puma. Yes Puma, the sports brand, of all brands of clothes.

The perforations are not as big as the ones on the Prada knits. The Prada perforations are REALLY obvious and almost see through. This one is more like a light dusting of perforations. And the perforations are diagonal here - but the idea is there. It's a perforated sweater and I think it's pretty cool!
Too bad they don't have a grey version, if not I would most definitely get it instead of black coz I have already 1 or 2 black sweaters. And the 2 weeks wait for the package to arrive from UK was torturous!
But it's worth the hunt and wait. At £32 (it was on discount from the original price of £65) it is a fraction of the $1000+ the Prada sweater cost. Yay!

Observations at Church

Churches used to be the place where people dress up to go to. I mean that was how the term 'dressed in your Sunday's best' came about. While people might not dress their best to go to church these days, my church is still the place where I see some of the more exciting things:

Like this gentleman above. Love is bow tie on short sleeve shirts. I wished I could pull it off but I think it'll look costumey on me. Look closely and you can also see a key chain clipped to his belt hoop. It's the details that count in men's dressing and he nailed it!
And then there are the quirky: like this radio bag, complete with knobs that actually turn!

Then runs in my god daughter with her sparkling shoes - gotta be seen in video!

Oh, and my godson who turns 1! Nothing really special about what he's wearing but he's soo cute and I want to put his picture here.

young at heart

I was minding my own business on the train home, checking my messages on my phone when from the corner of my eye, I saw a red shirt tucked into red checkered bermudas which were held up with a white belt! On closer inspection, the belt has perforated to show a guitar. Very rock & roll.

So I checked out who was wearing this and it was a man, in the September years of his life. It's quite rare & cool to see older gentlemen who still bother to spice up their dressing. But I wished he hadn't worn that cap. Does not go with his outfit.

It is just not worth it

This happened to my Aldo shoes in February. The heel gave way.

So I sent it to the cobbler. And he fixed it.

Fast forward 1 1/2 months later...

Now, the front sole gave way.

I think it's just not worth sending $150 shoes to the cobbler for repair.

The GSS is coming up.

It's a good reason to get nicer pairs of shoes.

Minty Green

Seems like the pictures didn't display nicely when this was first posted. So here is the post again!

Fashion comes and goes. But a well made shirt lasts forever. This might just be my new mantra.

Yay! I just tailored myself a shirt.

It's not from the trendiest of names - I first heard of the brand from my Dad after all - but they do have a long and proud history of shirt making. And I am quite proud to be able to participate in it.

Walking into their shop was quite exciting! So many fabrics and designs to choose from! I think one must really know what they want in their shirt before stepping into the shop, otherwise, the lunch hour is definitely not enough to order a shirt.

The fabric was a mint green 70-30 cotton polyester blend with a little texture to it. Think it's coz of my room's lighting. The colour is a little yellowish here.

Under certain lighting conditions, I would say it looks turquoise even!

I chose a classic semi spread short collar, to go with the slim cut of the shirt.

And instead of loud french cuffs, I went for pointed cuffs.

And the 2 weeks it took for the shirt to come was quite a wait! Finally I received the sms to collect the shirt and with excitement, I went down to try it on.

Well, I loved the fit of the shirt. Just that when I tried it, I reliased it's a little bit see-through - might be a bit too sexy for work... haha. Then the polyester blend fabric makes it a little warm too. But all in all, I'm quite excited to wear a mint green shirt - it's a colour that I've been trying to find off the rack but failed! It's the cool colour for Singapore's summery weather.

I think this is the beginning of an addiction to tailoring shirts.
