weekday lunch at PS cafe

There're few things better than having a long leisurely lunch on a weekday with a friend. PS cafe is just the place to have do it. High ceilings, huge bouquets of fresh flowers... the afternoon vibe there is fantastic!


Lunch is pretty good too. Fried chicken sandwich with mushroom soup.

Garrett

My favourite is the caramel with almonds - also the most expensive one.
It's really sweet, a handful of Garrett popcorn goes a long way.

feasting coz someone's in town - dinner

Then it's dinner time and we brought him to Bedok 85!

It was quite a long journey there and none of us stay near there! But food was good.

Ba Chor Mee, soup style. Nice noodles, tasty soup, springy pork balls with tender minced pork. Yum!

and for dessert... XO durians! the best were the bitter ones, not the sweet ones. oh. lovely texture and fragrant flesh.

A visitor come to town and we brought him out to lunch.

It's the best of Singapore: Tian Tian Chicken Rice, Rojak, Popiah & Sugar Cane!

Well worth the 15 minute walk to Maxwell!

Udders

I can't believe I haven't had an entry on my favourite ice cream.

It's udders!! Smooth, creamy, rich ice cream. Yum! These 2 are my favourite - hazelnuts and awesomely chocolate!

They never fail to pick me up!

Ruyi at Changi T1

Awful.

I think it isn't representative of Singapore's cuisine.

Terrible beef noodles. Too oily, noodles that were starchy, beef that was chewy and tasteless.


Worse was the dessert. Watery red bean paste with a few lumps of dumplings.

Totally unsatisfying meal.

Teochew Mueh

Fabulous!

Good old comfort food. Salty duck, warm watery porridge and lots of other old school stuff at the Amoy Street Market.

Kenny Rogers

I remember a time when Kenny Rogers was just $9.90 for a quarter chicken and 2 sides. There was no service charge and no GST.

Those days are gone.

It's now $14.90, excluding a 10% service charge and 7% GST!


Food is still pretty much the same. Comfort food...


But service is not the same! We wanted to split the bill into 2 coz we ordered 2 set meals. The waitress tried to pull a quick one: If you split the bill, the GST will be higher, she said.

Nice try!

MacDonald's Chicken McGrill

I hardly ever step into MacDonalds for a meal. But late one Friday at 10, with a big group of us needing a place to eat with air conditioning, we had not much of a choice but go down to MacDonalds.

I must say, I am quite impressed with their Chicken McGrill. The best part of the burger is the sourdough bun. Soft and chewy and oh-so yummy. It really makes the burger! I hope they don't take it off the menu!

2 burgers

2 burgers over the weekend. One expensive, from a restaurant/pub; the other was cheaper, from a food center at the foot of a HDB.

De Berg is located at the foot of a HDB in Gim Moh. I must say I am loving this gourmet burger joint! Juicy beef patties and excellent buns. At $9, I think it's cheap for gourmet burgers. Next time, I might even bring myself to pay $20 for their Wagyu burgers!


On the other end of the scale is the burger from Brewerkz. Dry beef patty spoils this meal. At 3 times the cost of the one in Gim Moh, I think it's very pricy! Never ordering their burgers again.

Itchiban Boshi serves up some delicious Japanese food! And their set lunch is exceptional! Everything on this set looks so good and tastes just as nice. Yum!!

a thousand layers

This is an interesting cake made up of many many layers of thin crepe with custard (I think) in between. Lots of work is involved. But it didn't quite rock my boat.

why does sinful food taste so good?

Salted Egg Yolk is high in cholesterol. But why is anything cooked with it taste soooo damn good?

fusion that works

Now this is a happy fusion of Italian and Japanese. Pizza that is as light as air! Love the biscuity crust and cheese toppings.

Thai at King's

If I didn't remember wrongly, it's olive beef rice. Eating it is fun! We mix it all up with the rice at the bottom and eat!


Stuffed chicken wings.


The pad thai was good! Sweet, nutty, salty.


Green curry was creamy...


and dessert was coconut milk covered tapioca.

It's a little pricy, but it's quite yummy.
