If I were rich

IMG_1232
Got the prints in London. If I were rich, I would get the original silk screen. But for now, I gotta settle for the prints.

Orange top. Pink bra. Yellow bag. What I really don't get is the bright red - and sparkling - bow on her hair.

GQ says hair-raised up is in

According to GQ, men's hair that is styled high is the in thing. I know that look. And it's a look that works for me. Problem is that my fine hair is not obedient and it usually ends up like this.

The secret, according to GQ is blow drying and pomade.

photo
Now, I've been blow drying and holding it back with clay and a lot of other stuff but it doesn't seem to work! All that 'super-hard' and 'long-keep' words on the styling products I have are just BS.

So what is this magical product called pomade and where do I get it?

@ Mr Teh Tarik

IMG_1205
What is an everyday thing to us is a source of fascination to others - like Teh Tarik.

What I like about this picture, taken from my humble 1 mega pixel iPhone camera, is the dreamy effect of the sunlight shining through the trees.

I'm personally not a big fan of Teh Tarik. It's usually way too sweet. But I like the richness and creaminess of a perfectly Tarik-ed cup of Teh. Haven't had a good cup in a long time...

Food at work

IMG_1209
I'm quite intrigued by my colleague's choice for breakfast and how he chooses to eat it. Quaker oats with chicken seasoning, served in a large tupperware and eaten with a plastic spoon.

IMG_1211
Lesson learnt: don't settle for a short queue at Maxwell market. The Kway Chap has gotta be the worst I've eaten. Next time I'm there, I'm queueing 20 mins for the famous fish porridge.

IMG_1214
And then: in the middle of my meal at Maxwell, I hear the sound (noise) of drums and cymbals. I turned my head and a Lion was staring straight at me.

A Little Drummer Group

IMG_1252
I don't get why drummers are patrolling in Vivocity.
It just adds to the din.

A photo gallery

IMG_1226
Went to the Chia's last night. Ta Baoed some hawker food up there to chill out.

It's a beautiful house complete with a walk in wardrobe and entertainment room! We were kinda like the dudes in the Carlsberg advertisement when we first got a tour of the house.

But my favourite part has gotta be this gallery of their lives.

Strawberry Cheesecake

For the Feb babies celebration, I decided that being the cell leader of a cell which has 6 members celebrating their birthdays in February, the least I could do was to buy them a cake. Tada:
IMG_1215
Not the best cheesecake in the world. I think the cake has been sitting in the chiller for at least a day or two. The base of cookie crumbs was already soggy. Boo... Plus the strawberries were sour. On the plus side, the cheese cake filling was creamy and thick - but altogether not very memorable. 2.5 stars out of 5 for Swiss Bake's Strawberry Cheesecake.

Another reason to love British fashion

IMG_0652
Leave it to the British to inject some cool into the newsroom, and in their flagship news channel no less.

Love the British nattiness and a not-afraid-to-laugh-at-yourself attitude the tie represents. Go BBC!

A pink top is quite a statement. To match it with a pink bow on the hair is sweetness overkill. Throw in a pink bag... I'm having a toothache.

Plum Wine

IMG_1173
I think I'm starting to develop an affection for Japanese alcoholic beverages. I guess I was initiated quite late into this new area, but my previous experiences are really good and this new one is no exception!

It was a CNY party and someone brought it to share. The plum wine was sweet and fragrant and immensely drinkable! Perfect ending to a meal, and a better alternative (in my opinion) to the overrated and too sweet desert wines.

The next time I'm at Isetan supermarket, I'm picking me up a bottle.

while waiting for the light to turn green

IMG_1181
He brought a smile to my face. A gentleman smoking his pipe as he waits for the red man to turn green. Something about his cool demeanor and his "Yeah, I am smoking a pipe outside a yellow box, deal with it!" attitude draws me to him.

Too bad I couldn't get a clearer picture.

This does not mean I condone smoking.

UPC's feast

1 month after the mission trip to Takeo, we all gathered at UPC's for a thanksgiving dinner. To remember how God was good to us during the trip and to discuss the way forward for our work in Cambodia.

Golden Shoe Curry Chicken Noodles

IMG_1166
Had lunch at the Golden Shoe food court and there was this stall selling Curry Chicken Noodles. It had those 'Best Food' certificates hanging at the stall and that caught my eye. Normally, I wouldn't eat anything with chili for lunch coz I would perspire buckets. But it was late in the day (4pm - yup, was caught up with work stuff) and I figured, why not.

I was very happy that I decided to eat it. The curry gravy was rich, creamy and satisfying. The chicken, fragrant and tender. And I liked the crunchy texture the bean sprouts together with the smooth noodles.

Was it worth perspiring buckets and buckets? Yeah! Only if it's late in the afternoon with little of the work day left though. 4 out of 5 stars!

5 inch heels

Spotted: a man in a tight purple polo tee, denim shorts and (get ready
for this) 5 inch high heels! Hairy legs and all!

Guess he was waiting for someone biz he was just standing there, right
smack in the middle, at Raffles Place MRT control station!

Too bad I couldn't get a picture...

Clayfish and Prawn Hor Fun

IMG_1162
My friend told me that the Clayfish and Prawn Hor Fun at Hong Lim Market was really good. So when I saw that the queue for the stall was short, I jumped in and ordered myself a plate.

Don't know what the fuss was about. The clayfish was not exactly fresh. Prawns were measly and a little soggy. The seafood was not springy and aromatic, like how fresh seafood should be. But the texture of the noodles and the sauce were rather good.

At $5 a place, I guess it's pretty cheap for clayfish and prawns. But will I wait in line if I see a long queue? I would just walk by...

The Everything Skit

This was done in a village in Takeo province in Cambodia in Dec 2009. We made it less abstract and adapted some of their social problems into the skit so that the locals could understand it.

Be blessed.

Hair Musings

IMG_1139

Was John's BOB yesterday. Woke up early, did my hair into a curry puff, all blown back look. Held it back with clay, gel and lots of hairspray. A few hours later at church, my hair becames like that. Sigh... Think I'm resigned to flat hair.
